History
GDM has gone from being a sole proprietorship with music in its name and a dream of something bigger – to becoming a strong and well-known brand in IT in Sweden. With offices in Sundsvall and Östersund, over 125 employees and customers all over the country, we continue to grow, without losing what makes us unique. The commitment, culture and desire to always do a little better have been with us since the start in 1992 and remain at the heart of everything we do.
1992-1998
From drums to keyboards
It all started with a drummer – and a strong desire to create something of his own.
In 1992, Tommy Gustafsson founded a sole proprietorship with the charming name Gustafssons Data & Musik – GDM. The name captured what was Tommy’s world at the time: IT by day and music by night. With a foot in both worlds, he took on assignments at SCA. It went quickly – customers appreciated the service, and soon more technicians were needed.
When GDM moved into larger premises and became a limited company in 1998, it was clear that something bigger had taken shape. An idea born of passion, entrepreneurship – and music.
1999-2005
Growing teams and the GDM spirit is born
GDM’s hallmark quickly became clear – close customer relationships, high commitment and a strong team spirit.
The helpdesk opened in 1999, and the Christmas parties became somewhat legendary. The first conference trip was to Sutme in the mountains – a mix of team building and technical slopes.
During the 2000s, the company was strengthened with a new board of directors, sales and marketing functions, and a new office on Södra Järnvägsgatan, which is still our home. With major assignments, such as an important agreement with SCA, the business doubled – and the GDM spirit with its family atmosphere spread far beyond our walls.
2007-2014
From local to regional - and beyond
With low staff turnover and a strong culture, GDM continued its journey – now through both organic growth and acquisitions.
We celebrated 15 years with Babsan on stage, opened an office in Östersund during the financial crisis and later also in Stockholm.
When GDM reached 100 employees in 2014, we were one of Sweden’s most appreciated IT companies in operations and outsourcing, and our work with customer satisfaction was repeatedly recognized.
The music was still there – but now we were playing on bigger and bigger stages.
2015-2021
New cities, new heights
With Gold Partnership in Microsoft Cloud, new offices in Gävle and Umeå, and certification according to ISO 27001, GDM took position as a strong and secure IT partner throughout Sweden.
We celebrated our 25th anniversary with customers and colleagues at Södra Berget and started GDM University together with Mid Sweden University.
And of course – we were named one of Sweden’s most attractive offices. Because a workplace should be as inspiring as the business.
2022- today
A future with pulse and passion
We celebrated 30 years in 2022 – three decades of growth, technology development and community.
In 2024, a historic step was taken when GDM became part of Aderian Group – a strong alliance of IT companies that, together, are even better for our customers.
We’re still GDM, just stronger, smarter and more ready than ever for the challenges of the future – with the same heart and spirit of service as we started out with. And yes – the music is still with us.
