Sleep well at night with GDM as your IT partner
GDM is the IT company with roots in Norrland. Since the early 90s, it has helped customers in Sweden and abroad with services in infrastructure, operations, workplace and security. Two important tools for this are NOC and SOC, which enable proactive work in maintaining a safe and reliable IT environment – around the clock.
A NOC, “Network Operations Center” is at IT companies like GDM a monitoring center for IT operations. It monitors networks, servers, services and applications for thousands of users in several countries. Metrics on status, function and performance are collected, presented and analyzed by on-site staff around the clock.
-Our NOC is a round-the-clock operation. Our specialists monitor and ensure stable operations so that the functions and applications in the IT environment work optimally. This allows our customers to focus on the real IT needs and requirements of the business without having to think about the underlying technical infrastructure,” says Jenny Asplund, Communications Manager at GDM.
“The heart and the central nervous system”
The NOC operations engineers say that, in a similarity to the human body, the monitoring tools in the NOC are the central nervous system, while GDM staff are the heart of IT operations. The ability to sense directly where it hurts and be able to relieve the pain acutely is an essential function of NOC and IT;
– Especially at night when many systems shift focus from serving users to running heavier system processes and backups, which during the day would otherwise disrupt the business too much. Ensuring that processes complete with the desired result and the ability to act when they do not, can be crucial to maintaining the vital function and continuity of a company’s IT system.

SOC – twin function focusing on data security
A SOC, also called “Security Operations Center”, is similar to NOC, but instead acts on events related solely to data security, attacks and intrusions. SOC is used for preventive purposes to increase the level of security in the customer’s IT system, Jenny Asplund explains;
– One could say that the SOC is the eyes of the NOC and perceives everything related to IT security. The two functions cooperate preventively with various protective measures to reduce attack surfaces for sabotage and intrusion and minimize the impact of attacks once they occur.

One of the biggest cyber threats today is attacks against users and accounts, making it important to monitor clients. Due to an increased need for cyber security and demand from customers, GDM delivers its SOC service together with a partner. Working together, they detect and respond to cyber threats around the clock to stay ahead of the security curve.
– Our partner analyzes incoming data and alerts us to incidents of anomalies so we can act and implement measures. If irregularities on clients are detected, they can be isolated, code blocked and accounts locked, before they escalate into a full-blown incident and the intruders can get further into the IT infrastructure,” the operations engineers conclude.
